Mountaineering
|
|
|
Mountaineering
around Dubai is great during the cooler months from
November to April. To the North of Dubai the Ru'us
Al Jibal Mountains have peaks at over 2000 meters.
The terrain is eroded due to the harsh desert climate.
Trips vary between short easy walks, and all day
treks on major routes.
Note that no mountain rescue services exist so anyone
heading out should be reasonably experienced.

| Bird
Watching |
|
|
Bird
Watching in Dubai has been attracting limited numbers
of bird-watching tourists, mainly from Europe, for
a number of years through specialist tour operators.
The most spectacular are the many greater flamingos
which have made the area their permanent home.
In
particular, the Khor Dubai Wildlife Sanctuary, a
large, shallow lagoon at the inland end of the Creek,
has become a haven for migrating shore birds, with
as many as 27,000 birds being counted there at one
time during the autumn migration.
