A trip to Dubai
would be complete without a trip into the desert. Such excursions
are best organised as part of a group tour, in a choice
of exciting half-day, full day and overnight safaris offered
by major tour operators.
Highlights of a safari in Dubai may include the following:

Dune
Driving

Dune
Driving in sand is an adventure in itself, combining
the excitement of a roller coaster ride with the
challenge of remaining mobile on the shifting surface.
Courses in sand driving are available, with four
wheel drive vehicles provided, along with expert
instruction. If you venture out into the interior
of the desert, one might get lucky and see a variety
of wild life, from foxes, hares and lizards to gazelles
and eagles.

Biking

If
you have nerves of steel then you should try out
the Moto-cross biking in Dubai, is a thrill ride
over bumpy, twisted terrain. The tracks are first-class
but the ride is not, so dressing properly is essential.
Riding in the desert and through the mountains is
a great ride that is highlighted with beautiful
scenery.

A popular
pastime with both residents and visitors is known
as ‘Wadi-bashing’- exploring the Wadis or dry beds
of streams that flow after winter rains from the Hajjar
mountains. Real exploration off the beaten track requires
four-wheel-drive vehicles for hire with or without
drivers.

Skiing |

Those
with a taste for speed, and a head for heights and
enthusiasm for an unusual sport will enjoy sand
skiing down the dunes of the Dubai desert. Special
skis are used and high dunes in the interiors of
the desert are chosen as ‘slopes’. Sand skiing sessions
can be arranged on request as a part of a full-day
or half-day safari.

Racing |

One
must visit the camel race to experience Dubai fully.
This would definitely be the most memorable experience.
The camel races takes place on Thursday's and Fridays
during the winter months, can be one of the most
memorable highlights of any visit to Dubai. At the
track on the edge of the city, visitors can view
the exciting proceedings from the grand stand, wander
around the paddocks, and buy camel accessories,
including blankets, rugs and beads from the nearby
market.

|
People on one of the overnight safaris may be lucky
enough to see an early morning race at a remote desert
track where spectators follow each event in a mad
melee of four wheel drive vehicles.
