Gurudwara Sri Paonta Saheb is situated right on the banks of the Yamuna. This is where Guru Govind Singhji is supposed to have written a major part of his book, Dassam Granth. The story goes that the place acquired it's name after the Guru had lost an ornament that he wore on his foot, known as the paonta. It is also said that the Yamuna flows without a ripple because the Guru had calmed it's turbulent waters.
The temple overflows with pilgrims especially during the festivals of Baisakhi and Holi in March. Apart from being a centre of worship, the gurudwara also hosts a string of cultural events. A special kavi darbar is held every month. There are also some fun events like turban-tying competitions. In the gurudwara premises is a museum dedicated to Govind Singhji.
