The Shakti Temple at Chatrari is one of the holiest sanctuaries of the hills. This Devi temple was founded by Meruvarman in 700 A.D.

Legend states that the temple was founded by Mashuna, the legendary ancestor of the old Bharmour dynasty, but the inscription on the image mentions Meruvarman, the founder of Bharmour. According to another legend the temple was the last work of Gugga, the master artisan of King Meruvarman.
