Kerala
Kerala meaning "land of coconuts," is almost entirely shaded by the palm canopy. The Kovalam beach rated by many as the best in India, offers small ferries through the backwater lagoons. Also on view are elephants cavorting in the wildlife sanctuaries. The food, hot and spicy, beats the best on the planet.
Kerala is simply charming. Alluring the visitor with intricate coconut groves, the lush greenery of the valleys and the splendid hills. The backwater cruises along the coastal lagoons mesmerise the travellers.
The state also boasts of political first by being the first place in the world to have elected a Communist Government in 1957.
In spite of this political hypersensitivity, it remains comparatively calm. Giving a red carpet welcome to "God's own country".
