Situated on the Delhi-Chennai main line, Datia is mentioned in the Mahabharata as 'Daityavakra'. Among the main historical monuments, the seven story palace built by raja Bir Singh Deo is one of the finest examples of Bundela architecture. This palace was built, in brick and stone, in 1614 and houses some of the finest Bundela paintings. The imposing Gopinath temple is a confluence of cultures with Mughal frescoes adorning the temple. |
