The
second largest city in Thailand, Chiang
Mai is situated 700 km north of Bangkok.
It also stood 9th among the top 10 most
livable cities in Asia. It has a population
of more than 1.5 million, more than 80%
of which belongs to the natives and the
rest constitutes of people from other nationalities
who come here to study, work or retire.
There are more than 1000 hill-tribes in
Chiang Mai; the most significant being Lua,
Palong, Karen, Lisu, Akha, Mien, Lahu and
Hmong.
The city houses more than 300 temples, most
of which are well known throughout the world
for their beauty and elegance. Appropriately
known as "Rose of the North",
this beautiful location is one of the most
popular and frequently visited sights in
Southeast Asia.
