Middle Andamans, one of the islands of the Andaman and Nicobar region, houses a Jarawa reserve. The Jarawas are the aboriginal inhabitants of the island and, unfortunately, far from hospitable to visitors so that any vehicle passing besides the reserve carries heavily armed guards. Consequently, independent travelling in this area is discouraged. However, the island is open to tourists, and accommodation and other facilities have been provided. Tourists can also visit Rangat and Mayabunder islands using the middle Andamans as a base. |
