Guntur lies on the southern bank of the river Krishna about two km from Prakasam Barrage at Vijayawada. The famous Undavalli Caves associated with the Vishnukundin kings of AD 420-620 are close to the city. These caves were dedicated to Anantapadmanabha and Narisimhaswami. From the point of sculptural and architectural excellence, these caves compare very well with the more well known ones at Ajanta. |
