The sanctuary is located in Rajampet of Cuddapah dist.and Chandragiri and Boilapadu of Chittoor dist. It is spread over an area of about 506.94 sq. kms. of which 353 sq km. is the National Park. The forest is dry deciduous mixed type of forest with patches of moist deciduous forest in the valleys.
The fauna includes some rare plant species like sandlewood, red sanders, shorea thumbergiana, shorea tulura, terminalia, pallida and cycas beddomei etc.
The wild life here includes the chital, sambar, nilgai, mouse deer, barking deer, wild boar, python, jackals, hyena, foxes, sloth bear, panthers, tigers and the very rare slender loris, apart from a variety of avi fauna.
The sanctuary is approachable from Tirupati and wall connected by train, air service and the State buses. The sanctuary is open round the year. |
