The museum is on the island in the middle of the dam. It is well laid out with information in Telugu, Hindi and English. Stone age picks, hoes and spears are on show. Impressive sculptures of large, voluptuous women stand next to exquisite Buddha statues.

The musuem is open daily, except Friday, from 9am to 4pm. Launches depart for the island from the village of Vijayapuri, on the banks of Nagarjunasagar, at 9:30am and 1:30pm each day (except Fridays).
