Tirupati which has the Venkateshwara temple is a world famous destination for the religious-minded. Situated in the Trimala-Tirupati region in the extreme south-east of Andhra Pradesh and nestled in the verdant Eastern Ghats - a mountain range that runs along south-eastern India - the region is a treasure-house of ancient temples, waterfalls and other places of interest.

Tirupati town is 704 km from Hyderabad, 150 km from Madras via Kalahasti and 250 km from Bangalore. Tourists can either fly to Tirupati from Madras, Bangalore and Hyderabad or travel by road. TTD (Trimala Tirupati Devasthanams) manages major temples in the Trimala-Tirupati region and some temples in Chittoor Dist.

Besides these temples, Tirupati is the seat of the University of Venkateshwara.
