Tinsukia District is in Upper Assam and bounded by - in East-South by Arunachal Pradesh, In the South-west by Dibrugarh District and in North by Dhemaji District which is separated from Tinsukia District by the mighty river Brahmaputra.
The Tinsukia Sub-Division of un-divided Dibrugarh District was declared as the 23rd District of Assam on 1st October'1989. It consists of three sub-division viz Tinsukia (Sadar), Margherita and Sadiya.
Tinsukia is an industrial district, yet it produces a sizeable amount of Tea,Oranges,Ginger, Citrus fruits and Paddy. Majority of its population are cultivators and agricultural workers.
