It is believed that 22, out of 24, 'tirthankars’ attained salvation here. It is one of the most sacred pilgrim centres for the Jains. Just inside the Bihar state boundary with West Bengal, and only a bit north of Grand Trunk Road, Parasnath is the Railhead for Sikayi, the major Jain pilgrimage centre in the east of India. Sikayi at 1450 mt is the highest point in Bihar and is reached by a stiff climb on foot. |
