Sasaram, in the district of Rohtas, is a small township on the Grand Trunk Road, well known for it's ancient monuments, especially for an inscription of Ashoka in a cave on the hill of Chandan Pir to the east of the town, and for the imposing mausoleum of Sher Shah.
Here, Sher Shah built the caravanserais the wells of which still stand on the course of the Grand Trunk Road from Bengal to Punjab. |
