Diu is a beautiful blend of sun, sand and sea. A sea port and naval base of considerable strategic importance from the 14th to 16th centuries, today it remains so insulated from the influence of the outside world that the entire district seems to be in a time warp. The region is among the oldest bastions of Portuguese power and has a long, colourful history.
Diu has no five star hotels or monuments. The main attraction of the area washed by the Arabian Sea is the timelessness which embodies each day. The innocence of Diu is reflected in the fact that the maximum security prison within the fort is always empty except for petty offenders or drunken brawlers. |
