Just 2 kms to the south of Purana Qila lies the Humayun's Tomb, a structure made in red and white. It was raised by his widow Haji Begum in the 16th century. The construction of the tomb is said to have cost the begum around 1.5 million rupees. The tomb has a resemblance to Taj Mahal.
The tomb is placed in the heart of a vast garden enclosed by walls on three sides. Folowing the pattern of the Mughal architecture of the time the garden is divided into four parts by wide causeways and water channels, with each square further divided into even smaller squares by pathways. |
