Somanth contains one of the twelve sacred Shiva shrines known as ‘Joytirlinga’. It is said that the Somnath temple was originally built by Soma, the Moon God, in penance and worship of Lord Shiva who had laid a curse upon him. Close by is a Sun Temple, the Surya Mandir. There is a museum within the temple complex that contains relics of the old Somnath shrine.
