The Panchkula district comprises a region which has a glorious past as a cradle of great civilization and culture. Located in the district is the valley of the river Saraswati, mentioned in the ancient Rig Vedas, which was a hub of great activity in times gone by.
A scenic place with a number of nurseries, including the famous cactus garden, Panchkula is beautifully laid out with the residents maintaining scenic gardens. The district, which has four towns, Kalka, Panchkula, Pinjore and H.M.T. Pinjore, abounds in many places, the antiquity of which has been established by archaeological explorations. Panchkula is a good base to explore recently developed places like Morni hills and the Pinjore complex.
