Dalhousie, situated at 2039 meters and covering an area of 14 sq km, sprawls over five hills - Kathlog, Potreyn,Tehra, Bakrota and Balun. The area was acquired by the British from the Raja of Chamba and named after Lord Dalhousie, then Viceroy of India.

Surrounded by varied vegetation like the pines, deodars, oaks and flowering rhododendron, this still small hill station retains much of its old world charm. Its marvellous forests trails overlook vistas of wooded hills, waterfalls, springs and rivulets. There are also magnificent views of the Chamba Valley and the mighty Dhauladhar range with its awe-inspiring snow covered peaks filling the entire horizon.
