Kaza, located at an altitude of 3640 mt, is the administrative center and the transport hub of Spiti sub-division. The Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh is a cold desert. Kazas 'old town', is a maze of little shops, hotels and houses.

The 'new town', across the creek, is a collection of tin-roofed government buildings, including the sub-divisional Magistrate's office. It is an easy going place to spend a few days and to visit some stunning monasteries.
