The Bhima Kali temple at Sarahan is the finest example of Himachal architecture. The temple has a rectangular
structure with a sloping roof and is dedicated to the Goddess Kali whose two large metal images are preserved in the temple. The main statue of Bhimakali is surrounded by images of Parvati, Buddha and Annupama, among others, all under a beautiful filigree silver canopy. In the far right of the courtyard is the Lankra Vir temple where, up till the 19th century, human sacrifices were performad to appease Bhimakali.
This is quite an ancient temple possibly dating back to the 7th-8th Century A.D. Surrounded by the snow clad mountains, the temple is located at a picturesque spot and attracts visitors from far and wide. Besides the pent proof strucuture there is another pagoda type of structure build over the raised platform of dressed stone masonry. |
