This large grassy meadow with a promenade forms the heart of Chamba town as well as the centre of all it's cultural activities. It is also the site of the famous Minjar Festival, which celebrates the harvest in Jul-Aug every year. The Chaugan, bordered by low hills, runs for a km or so along the cliff over the Ravi. From here you can see the snow, while above it stands the elegant Akhand Chandi Palace of the erstwhile royal family, part of which has now been converted into government offices and a college. |
