Srirangapatna is an island town encircled by river Cauvery. The temple of Lord Sriranganatha is said to have been built by the Chieftain Thirumalaiah in 894 AD. This was once the capital of Hyderali & his son Tippu Sultan, "The Tiger of Mysore".
Places of intrest are : Sriranganatha Temple - This is one of the largest temples in the State & is of great local importance. Daria Daulat Bagh -Tipu Sultan's Summer palace built in 1784 was his favorite retreat. The Gumbaz-
Here lie the bodies of Hyder, his wife & Tippu. It is an imposing structure in the midst of the lovely Lal-bagh garden. Dungeons -
Situated to the East of the Delhi Gate at a distance of 150 yards. The Dungeons are hidden by the view of the passers by, with a large oblong bastion in the fort wall. Other Places are Tipu's Palace, The Fort, Old Masjid, Delhi Gate & Bridge, Jibi Gate and the Narasimha Temple.
