The Kumbh Mela, is the largest celebration for hindus where people take a holy dip in the sacred river to wash there sins and to attain salvation. The mela alternates between Nasik, Allahabad, Ujjain and Haridwar with each city hosting it once every 12 years. In Nasik much of the celebration is centred on the Trimbakeshwar Temple, 33 km away. The next Kumbh Mela will be held in Nasik in the year 2003. |
