The Anglican St. Thomas' Cathedral is the oldest english building standing in Mumbai. It is a garrison church that rose to the rank of cathedral and is now a grand memorial-cum-trophy room to the Raj. The foundations were laid in 1672 during the governorship of Gerald Aungier -- it was consecrated in 1816 and became a cathedral in 1837.
