This famous and distinctive temple of Lord Jagannath, Lord of the universe, makes Puri one of the holiest pilgrimage for Hindus.
It was built in it's present form in 1198 and is protected by two surrounding walls. The conical tower of the temple is 58 mt high on which the flag and the wheel ofLord Vishnu can be seen. In the central jagamohan or assembly hall, pilgrims can see the images of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balbhadra and sister Subhadra. The temple is restricted for non-Hindus. The best food in Puri is the magnificent prasad cooked and blessed in the Jagannath temple. |
