Patiala, the former capital of princely state, has magnificent forts, palaces and gardens. Quilla Mubarak, the fort which is the nucleus of Patiala, houses an impressive armoury and chandeliers. Patiala also produces some exquisite handicrafts, especially the embroidery called phulkari. The bazaar is also quaint, placed within the fort, with narrow alleys dedicated to selling one type of goods only so that all the shops in one carry jutis or rustic shoes while those in another carry only parandis or ornamental hair ribbons. |
