Deeg is a small town with massive fortifications, stunning palace and busy market. Built by Suraj Mahl in the mid-18th century, Deeg was formerly the second capital of the Bharatpur state and the site of a famous battle in which the maharaja's forces successfully withstood a combined Mughal and Maratha army of some 80,000 men.
Among the special attractions of Deeg are the Gopal Bhawan, Nand Bhawan and Krishna Bhawan, ingeniously designed palaces with attractive features which are rich in history. |
