Located at Kankwari fort, near Alwar on the Delhi-Jaipur highway, the forest became a sanctuary in 1958, came under project tiger in 1979 and became a national park in 1982. This place is spread over an area of 788 sq km with a core area of 474 sq km lies in the Aravalli range. A dainty hunting lodge overlooks the Silliserh lake running at the edge of the reserve.

The fauna of this sanctuary includes panther, jungle cat, jackal and hyena. 35 tigers and 3 caracals were reported in the reports of 1985. Sambar, chital, wild boar, hare, nilgai and porcupines are amongst the other animals found here.

The avifauna of this place is made up of pea fowl, gray partridge, quail, sand grouse, tree pie, white breasted kingfisher, golden-backed woodpecker, crested serpent eagle and great Indian horned owl.  

The place is surrounded by magnificent ruins scattered around it, adding to it's charm. 32 kms from this place are the Neelkanth temples built in the 6-13 th century A.D. Amidst the reserve is situated the ancient Kankwari Fort. It is here that emperor Aurangzeb had once held his brother Dara Shikoh under captivity. A beautiful complex built in 1902 has been converted into a hotel.< br>
Oct-June is the best time to visit the park.
