Arni is known mostly for its woven silk sarees although keeping honey bees, agriculture and poultry farming also occupy its people.
Arni was ruled by the Cholas for a long time and the remnants of their rule can be seen today. An interesting structure is a beautiful bungalow built by a local ruler for his beloved, an Anglo-Indian woman.
Arni was a local centre in the struggle against British rule.
