Coimbatore is one of the most important cities in Tamil Nadu. Due to it's salubrious climate, the city is known as the 'poor man's Ooty', which is a beautiful hill resort.

Due to the industrial activity in the city, Coimbatore is also known as the 'Manchester of South India'. There are more than 30,000 small, medium and large industries and textile mills. For religious people an important festival is Arudhra Dharshan at Perur. For industrial people, annual signpost industrial fair is an important fair. Primarily a business centre, this city is also famed for it's automobile spares and manufacture of motor pumpsets. There are a number of technical institutions here.
