Preserving the rich cultural heritage, Dakshina Chitra is an 'art village' situated 20 km from Chennai. Founded by the Chennai Craft Foundation, mainly associated with women art and craft lovers and connossieurs, Dakshina Chitra has the models of traditional handlooms and the replica of the houses of Kancheepuram silk-weavers.
The traditional craftsmen and folk artists are seen at work in the settings representing the century-old houses and workshops of the crafts community. Until expansion of the Chitra Kudam is gone through the present two sections of Kerala and Tamil Nadu give an insight into the life-styles and craftsman-ship of the people of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. |
