A famous pilgrim centre of the South and one of the six abodes of Lord Subramanya is situated 64 km from Kodaikanal. The presiding diety of the temple is Lord Dhandayuthpani.

Palani's hill temple, Malaikovil, dedicated to Murugan, has over 650 steps leading to the inner sanctrum where the image of the diety is believed to have miraculous powers. Some 200,000 pilgrims gather here each year,in January, for Thaipusam. This temple is so popular that an electric winch has been installed to carry sick and aged devotees to the top.
