Situated at an elevation of 1829 mt above sea level, in the northwestern
corner of Pahang, lies Cameron Highland which is the largest and
the most stylish hill resort in Malaysia.
The area specializes in supplying of green peppers, cabbage, carrots,
lettuce and tomatoes to the major cities of Malaysia and Singapore;
it is also known as 'GreenBowl'. Sporting relaxing activities like
shopping, touring, dinning and golfing; this beautiful hill station
is built in the blissfully peaceful English environment and has
remained unaffected since the colonial times. The busy market square
of Brinchang, strawberry farms, exotic waterfalls, tea plantations
and the beautiful rose gardens are the most popular attractions
of the area. A stoppage at Kuala Woh Forest Recreation Park which
has a hot spring and beautiful picnic spots; the drive up to Cameron
Highlands is most pleasurable.
With two theme parks offering dozens of entertaining rides for the
whole family; Genting Highlands, located 50 kms from Kuala Lumpur,
is the most developed hill resort in Malaysia, at an elevation of
2000 mt above the sea level. The resorts offer a cool haven from
the chaotic city life. Many Malaysian people head for Genting Highlands
specifically for its nightlife. There are international dinner shows
and discos, while the world-class Casino in Genting offers Blackjack,
Baccarat, Keno, French Bull, Roulette, Tai Sai and slot machines
and Discotheques. For golfers there is the 'Awana Golf and Country
Resort 'which has a 18-hole--par 71 golf course and horseback performances
of the 'Awana Horse Ranch'.
George Town, the capital of the island of Penang was named by the
British after King George III. It was established by Capt Francis
Light in 1786. Penang is the oldest British settlement in Malaysia.
The government centre and its financial heart, George Town is an
interesting and bustling city with modern high rise buildings, cathedrals,
mosques, government offices, temples, bazaars, shops and cafes.
One must visit the older part of the town that has narrow lanes
and alleyways, which makes it a pleasure to walk.
The most interesting place to visit is Fort Cornwallis is situated
at the spot where Captain Francis Light was supposed to have landed
in 1786. Originally a wooden structure, the fort was rebuilt between
1808 and 1810 with convict labour.
Kuala Lumpur, the cosmopolitan capital of Malaysia is a very happening
city. Kuala Lumpur is situated midway along the west coast of Peninsular
Malaysia, at the confluence of the Klang and Gombek rivers. It is
approximately 35 km from the coast and sits at the center of the
Peninsula's extensive and modern transportation network.
The famous twin towers the worlds tallest are situated
in this city. You will see ultra-modern skyscrapers standing magnificently
next to rows and rows of quaint old shop houses. Haute cuisine beside
hawker stalls. Kuala Lumpur presents an interesting proposition
for the traveller.
The city is home to a very mixed crowd of Malays, Chinese and Indians,
all contributing towards making this one of the busiest, most colourful
and fascinating cities in South East Asia.
Langkawi is situated in the state of Kedah, consists of 104 islands,
stretching out over 362 sq km. The capital of Langkawi is at Kuah.
Out of the 104 islands Langkawi is the largest, with a sizeable
population, mainly of Malay origin. And only three of the other
islands.
Unspoilt and rustic, it is a tropical paradise spectacularly endowed
by nature, one where crystal clear emerald waters, azure skies,
dense tropical rainforests, and fantastic limestone formations can
be found. Langkawi has been called the 'Island of legends
because a number of folklore, myth and legend can be heard about
the place.
