The houseboats were originally built 40 years ago and are constructed from Anjli wood and coir. 55 ftin length and 15 ft in width, they have a capacity of 35 tons and carry goods, mainly rice. With an average of 20 kms a day, 2 men can easily handle it with bamboo sticks. They are simply furnished and have a thatched covered lounge cum dining area, a double bedroom (with msoquito net) and a bathroom with a WC and wash basin. In the evening the boat is lit by hurricane lamps. It also has a small service area in the back where meal is prepared, using as much fresh provisions as can be plucked, caught or bought in backwaters.
